EZR is an MS-Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista, multi-alphabetic text processor. The documents are named with a three-letter file extension that reflects the language.

To start EZR, click on Start...Programs...UofA Language Courseware...EZR. You can print out the document at any time using the File…Print menu command.
EZR is similar to text editors such as Windows Notepad. EZR uses a Multiple Document Interface, which allows for multiple documents open at the same time. You can Cut and Paste between documents of the same language. EZR will automatically "word wrap" text, but there are no formatting capabilities such as multiple fonts or paragraph formatting found in other, more elaborate word processors.
You can use the mouse or keyboard to move to any point in the document. The scroll bars can be used to page up or down, or you can drag the 'thumb' of the scroll bar to any relative position in the document. You can use the arrow keys to move the cursor, and by holding the control key down while using the arrow keys, you can move the cursor ahead or back one word. The End key moves the cursor to the end of the current line, and the Home key moves to the beginning of the current line.
For Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages, a special input system window translates your keystrokes into characters. You can press the Right Alt key to switch from the input box to the document and back. See UACALI CJK Input Systems for more information. For non-ideograph languages such as Russian, Spanish, etc., you can press Ctrl + Insert keys to toggle between language specific keyboard mapping and unmapped keystrokes. This is useful when typing English in a Russian document.
Once text is selected, it can be deleted, copied, or pasted over. Selected text will appear inverted relative to unselected text. You can double click on text to select a word, or hold the mouse button down to select larger portions of text. You can also hold down the shift key while using the cursor keys to select text.
EZR will wrap your text at the appropriate boundary for display on a VGA monitor.
EZR has a complete context-sensitive help system with an index. You can press F1 at any time to get access to the help system. Also by clicking on the special help toolbar icon, you can click on any screen item and get help on that item. Please refer to the help system for discussion of the menu choices.
